When used alongside other metal driers, Zinc Octoate facilitates the complete drying process and helps prevent surface wrinkling. In paint systems, when used in the early stages, it functions as an excellent wetting and dispersing agent. It improves grinding in the production process and shortens production time. At 22°C, it is used in polyester applications as a polyurethane catalyst, oxidative drier, lubricant additive for wear and rust prevention, and as an intermediate for PVC heat stabilizers.

It is soluble in organic solvents and oils. Like calcium, zinc is an auxiliary drier and is commonly used with other driers.
